Fossil Handling Sessions

"The Tide's In"

If you’ve timed your holiday with the kind of tides that would need a wetsuit and flippers to reach the fossil beds, don’t worry - we’ve got you covered. In this private, hands-on fossil handling session in Lyme Regis, you'll learn everything you need to know to confidently explore the Jurassic Coast once the tides turn in your favour.

You'll get to handle real fossils, discover what they are, how to spot them, and learn about the incredible prehistoric creatures they once were - from ancient ammonites to ichthyosaurs. We’ll also delve into the life and legacy of Mary Anning, Lyme Regis’s own pioneering fossil hunter who helped change the world of science.

If you are keen, I can take you to see some important sites within the town of Lyme Regis related to Mary Anning. This would be a gentle pace, but please be aware that the pavements can be narrow and busy and Lyme Regis is quite hilly.

Suitable for ages 7 and above. While younger children are very welcome to join us, the content may go over their heads a little. â€‹
